How is Global EV Adoption constructed?
Published by Deepstory Research as the methodology attached to Global EV Adoption. Scope and source attribution are bounded by that Evidence Brief.
Procedure and scope
Share is EV sales as a percentage of total new car sales, on the IEA Global EV Outlook definition — battery-electric plus plug-in hybrid, light-duty passenger cars only. Commercial vehicles and two/three-wheelers are excluded, which matters because including them raises the headline number substantially in some markets. The year-on-year change series is the IEA’s own published percentage-point deltas, not a difference computed from the level series — the two are consistent but the deltas are the cited figure. CAVEAT: successive Global EV Outlook editions restate prior years as national reporting is revised. Values here are taken from the most recent edition that publishes each year. Known failure modes and limits
- BEV versus PHEV split.
- Country-level shares — this is the global aggregate.
- Fleet composition, as opposed to new-sales share.
