About this data

Pack prices fell to $108/kWh in 2025, an 8% drop on 2024 and roughly 93% below the 2010 level. The decline continued despite rising battery-metal costs, driven by cell-manufacturing overcapacity, intense price competition and the shift to lower-cost lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry.

Methodology

Prices are BloombergNEF’s annual volume-weighted average PACK price (not cell price), covering both EV and stationary-storage demand. Pack prices sit above cell prices by the cost of the module, housing, thermal management and BMS — comparing a pack figure to a cell figure is a common error and would overstate the decline. CAVEAT: only 2023 and 2025 are seeded on the trend chart. BNEF publishes a full annual series, but the two releases cited here give levels for those two years only; 2024 is expressible only as "8% above 2025", which is a derivation rather than a published value, so it is omitted. The regional bars for North America and Europe ARE derived — BNEF publishes them as premia (+44% and +56%) over the published China level of $84/kWh. The arithmetic is stated in each value_basis so the derivation is visible rather than hidden. Re-verified 2026-08-10.
